The BAISD developmental classroom programs at Bangor Central Elementary serve elementary age students with Moderate
Cognitive Disabilities. They are designed to strengthen the educational, social and self-help skills of
students who are five through 11 years of age.
The primary goal of these two classrooms is skill acquisition.
These skills range from reading, writing and math to participation
in activities that encourage the further development of sensory,
gross motor, fine motor and communication skills.
The curriculum is structured to address each student's developmental
level. All students work toward individualized goals as defined
in their Individual Educational Plan (IEP). Parents and guardians
are considered essential participants in their child's education.
Students are expected to:
Follow school rules
Listen and attend to classroom activities
Respect each other
Become as independent as possible
Bangor Central Developmental classrooms are housed within a regular
elementary school and have been in operation for over 30 years.
This classroom setting provides our students with a safe, healthy,
age appropriate environment.
